This story came out of an obscure Don Henley Song from his landmark "Building the Perfect Beast" album of 1984. If you're not familiar with that album, go see what Don Henley was capable of when released from the bonds of being one of the Eagles. Anyway, this story in its current form may or may not be finished. I have feedback in both directions from my writer's group. 

It's an actual pleasure to write about men trying to learn how to take care of one another in the shadow of grief and loss. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that there are good things about classical masculinity that should be celebrated, or at least quietly honored, as these two would probably rather have it.
