A Note on Ursula K. Le Guin’s Daoist Interests
Academic SubmissionsRobert Steed
In this fascinating article, Robert Steed provides a concise primer on Ursula K Le Guin's Daoist influences. Rather than approach Le Guin through the lens of literary criticism, Steed takes Daoist concepts as a basis through which we may approach Le Guin’s writing. The article begins by unpacking what is meant by "Daoism" before turning to widely recognized Taoist concepts in Le Guin's work. Ultimately, Le Guin’s Daoism is idiosyncratic. She draws from some strains of Daoist tradition and thought while ignoring others.
